WhatsApp Beta For Android To Get New Interface For Status Updates
WhatsApp is currently testing a new look for the status updates tray, which will be included in a future stable release. The latest beta release, version 2.24.8.6, previews the new design presently in development.
The new WhatsApp status updates tray will provide users a preview of the first status without opening it. The makeover improves usability and saves screen space when no new statuses exist. Read more tech pieces of information here.

The status area will remain at the top of the screen, making it easy to locate and use. If there are no new statuses, WhatsApp will display a different graphic to inform users that statuses expire after one day.

However, as seen in the picture, there is no opportunity to examine the status again; this may be under the More menu option.
