40-year-old Segun Success Olanrewaju lost his life while participating in a Ghanaian boxing match when he collapsed during the fight.
The boxing match took place on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Bukom Boxing Arena, where former National and West African light-heavyweight champion Segun “Success” Olanrewaju dueled against Accra-born John Mbanugu, known professionally as “Power” in an undercard fight for Ghana’s Professional Boxing League.
During the brawl, Olanrewaju dropped to the floor without warning, prompting the referee to seek medical help.
The medical team performed resuscitation but eventually confirmed the 40-year-old fighter’s death because he likely suffered cardiac arrest.
In the final 15 seconds of round three from an eight-round matchup, Olanrewaju suffered a slipped stance and then continued exchanging fierce blows with his opponent before he hit the canvas based on social media fight footage.
The sudden loss of this professional boxer triggered profound grief throughout the entire boxing sector.
