Sources say she died after a short illness, but the exact cause of her death is still not clear at the time of this report. The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Bright Edafe, confirmed the sad news, saying she was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.

In an interesting turn of events, her husband—who first reported the incident to the police—has been placed in protective custody. Edafe clarified that the husband is not under arrest but was brought in for his safety.

“He was the one who called to say his wife had died early this morning and mentioned that he was receiving threats from her family. To prevent any harm, we picked him up and put him in protective custody,” Edafe explained.

However, the situation took a new turn when members of the late Chief Shimite’s family filed a formal complaint with the police. According to Edafe, the family suspects that her husband may have been involved in her death.

“We are looking into the matter thoroughly. In such cases, only a proper medical examination or autopsy can tell if the death was natural or caused by something else,” Edafe stated. The police have promised to share more details as investigations continue.
