Seun Osewa, the founder of the micro-blogging site Nairaland, revealed that the platform is currently facing challenges due to its server host taking it down.
Users raised concerns on Monday night after being locked out, prompting worries of a potential hack.
Upon checking the platform, numerous error messages indicated issues with the server. Osewa admitted that this was a consequence of neglecting an abuse report sent earlier.
Despite removing the offensive content, Osewa explained in a series of tweets on Tuesday morning that the server’s user interface was still experiencing delays.
He stated, “Nairaland’s server was taken down because I overlooked an abuse report that was originally sent on the 14th. After the takedown, I removed the offensive content.”
“The UI for bringing back the server didn’t work, so it took hours to get support on how to get that done. Minutes after the forum was returned, they took the server down again with no warning.
“The content I removed was still cached on Cloudflare servers so that they could see it. I have cleared the caches now, but they are not communicating. I hope they will share tomorrow.
“If you have any ideas for working with abuse teams, please share. My track record is abysmal.”
He added that it could take 48 hours of review from the host’s abuse team before restoring the site.
“The technical support team has informed me that only the abuse team has the power to reinstate our server, that their review could take up to 48 hours, and that nothing can be done to speed up the process.
I’ve been informed that the only thing I can do is wait. It’s humbling,” he added.
In the meantime, platform users have expressed their support, with some offering suggestions on expediting the resolution of the issues.
Additionally, confident individuals who responded encouraged Osewa to enhance Nairaland into a comprehensive social media platform to prevent similar incidents in the future.
However, netizens began to complain about the server. downtime
Users on the social media app X have expressed frustration over their inability to access the popular microblogging site Nairaland. The platform encountered downtime, as revealed by its founder, Seun Osewa.
In a series of tweets early Tuesday, Osewa explained that the site was taken down in response to an abuse report that he had “overlooked” since it was “originally sent on the 14th.”
He mentioned resolving the issue by removing the offensive content but encountered further complications when the server was taken down again without warning after a few hours of being restored.
Osewa speculated that the initially removed content might still be cached on Cloudflare servers, preventing clear communication. Despite efforts to address the situation, communication remained challenging.
He shared, “Nairaland’s server was taken down because I overlooked an abuse report that was originally sent on the 14th. After the takedown, I removed the offensive content.”
In response to this development, users on X, some of whom regularly visit Nairaland, expressed their discontent, disappointment, and grievances.
