Popular Lagos pastor Bishop Oluwafeyiropo Daniels has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Lagos State Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court in Ikeja.
The conviction stems from the rape of a fellow pastor at his church, I Reign Christian Ministry, in June 2020. Despite the defendant’s denials, the presiding judge, Justice Rahman Oshodi, found the testimony of the complainant and other witnesses credible and consistent.
The court concluded that the prosecution had effectively proven all elements of rape as defined in section 260(2) of the criminal laws of Lagos state, 2015.
However, Justice Oshodi acquitted pastor Feyi Daniels of a separate charge related to an alleged rape at his home in 2020 due to insufficient evidence regarding force, fear of harm by the complainant, and misrepresentation by the defendant.
The Lagos state court mandated the inclusion of the convict’s name in the sex offenders register and directed that the pastor serve his prison sentence at the Kirikiri maximum facility in Nigeria.
The judge emphasized that the pastor had exploited his authority and position to sexually abuse two church members, stating that rape carries a mandatory life sentence and sexual assault results in a three-year jail term, which cannot fully address the harm caused to the victims.
