We see the “Search on the Web” feature in the latest beta version of the app.
WhatsApp is constantly developing excellent additions to the messaging app. After dropping a couple of updates in the last couple of days, the latest beta version has announced that a new exciting image search is coming soon.
WABetaInfo, As per WABetaInfo, the new WhatsApp beta (2.24.23.13) is also testing a new image search. It is used to check if the images posted in chats or groups are authentic or not and to detect fake or misleading photos. It should be released to more beta testers in the coming weeks.
The new function, WABetaInfo says, aims to let users know if the image has been edited or misrepresented. It’s straightforward to use; simply click on a picture in a chat or group, click on the three dots on the top right, and a new “Search on the web” button will appear.
The option is a new window that displays “Moving for details will send just this message to Google.”.
This entails that the picture you see on the platform is referred to by the search engine for authenticity and accurate result display.
This might be very helpful in identifying AI-generated images or false images posted by users on the site, as well as dealing with fake news more easily.
The last time, if you wanted to look up an image sent via WhatsApp, you needed to copy the picture to your Android device, then open the Google Search app and send the photo in reverse. The feature WhatsApp is going to introduce does all this without you needing to quit the app, which is handy.
WABetaInfo also mentions that the said feature is not mandatory, and you can just either use it or cancel it (check out the attached screenshot).
The new feature is launched for Android smartphones, and users subscribed to WhatsApp beta from the Google Play Beta Program, it was reported. However, the launch of Android and iOS may take weeks to months.
In the meantime, the Meta-owned messaging app has recently added new customisation options for handling your chats through lists. This company is now letting you set your lists/chat filters to filter your contacts or chats on WhatsApp (which were restricted to predefined filters).
