The United States President-elect Donald Trump appointed billionaire businessman Elon Musk.
FMT BLOG reports that Elon Musk, an ardent supporter of Trump’s wish to return to the White House, has been chosen to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
The department will be run jointly by Musk and former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy.
In a joint statement, the president-elect said Musk and Ramaswamy “will help to clear the way for my administration to eliminate government bureaucracy, eliminate unnecessary regulations, reduce wasteful spending, and reorganise federal agencies.”.
It’s assumed, however, that DOGE is not a government agency and would rather provide “consultation and advice” outside of government.
Trump’s plan stated it would partner with the Office of Management and Budget to “propel major structural reform and create an entrepreneurial model of government never before seen”.
Their mandate is set to end in July 2026, and Trump hopes that the agency will focus on building a more effective US government that will ‘better the lives of all Americans’.
“Importantly, we will drive out the massive waste and fraud which exists throughout our annual $6.5 Trillion Dollars of Government Spending. They will work together to liberate our Economy, and make the U.S. Government accountable to ‘WE THE PEOPLE.
“Their work will conclude no later than July 4, 2026 – A smaller Government, with more efficiency and less bureaucracy, will be the perfect gift to America on the 250th Anniversary of The Declaration of Independence. I am confident they will succeed!,” Trump said.
