Sir Bobby Charlton, the legendary footballer from England and Manchester United, passed away at 86 after battling dementia.
With 758 appearances for his club and 106 caps for his country, Sir Bobby was regarded as one of the greatest players in the game’s history. Born in Ashington, Northumberland, on October 11, 1937, he was an integral part of England’s World Cup-winning team in 1966.

Surrounded by his family, Sir Bobby peacefully passed away this morning, leaving behind his wife, Lady Norma, two daughters, Suzanne and Andrea, and grandchildren.
His death further reduces the number of surviving members from the 1966 team, with only Sir Geoff Hurst remaining. The family has requested privacy during this difficult time.
Manchester United, where Sir Bobby enjoyed an extraordinary career, expressed their grief, describing him as “one of the greatest and most beloved players in the history of our club.”
He had withdrawn from public life since being diagnosed with dementia in 2020, following the passing of his elder brother, Jack Charlton, and other teammates from the 1966 squad who also suffered from the illness.
