Multichoice’s owner of Digital Satellite Television (DStv) has agreed to broadcast the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Cote d’Ivoire 20223 on SuperSport, its sports channel.
Last week, the firm said that the SuperSport channel on DSTV could not broadcast the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament live.
In an earlier statement, Multichoice stated that it would be unable to show the competition live due to a lack of broadcast rights.
“The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023, scheduled for January 13th – February 11th, 2024, will not be broadcast on SuperSport Channel because the channel has not secured the rights to broadcast the tournament.”
“However, AFCON 2023 games will be available through our partner broadcast stations on Free to Air (FTA) channels,” MultiChoice stated in a press release.
However, a reliable source has confirmed that SuperSport will broadcast AFCON 2023 games beginning with Saturday’s opener between hosts Cote d’Ivoire and Guinea Bissau.
According to a source close to the negotiations, SuperSport rights are non-exclusive and will thus be available on various DSTV and GOtv packages.
