Pretoria Magistrates’ Court sentences a 61-year-old former employee of the Department of Public Service and Administration to life in prison for r@ping his 10-year-old niece.
The girl, the court was told, was staying with her aunt, who was married to the defendant, a deacon in the International Assemblies of God church. This man r@ped the girl on 17 November 2017 when he relocated some of his things to his new residence in Mamelodi East.

“Upon arriving, the man r@ped his niece and told her to leave, as they were “playing a game,” National Prosecuting Authority spokesman Lumka Mahanjana said.
The story was exposed a year later when the victim’s aunt discovered the assault and reported it to the police on November 18, 2018. The man had denied the charge and said that his wife had conspired to get him out of the house.
“But prosecutor advocate Annelizer Stiles called witnesses—tthe victim, a physician, and the accused’s wife — who all offered strong evidence showing that the man was guilty.”
During sentencing, the man asked the judge to sentence him to correctional supervision. But the man, the court held, had shown no regret and had exploited a vulnerable child.
