The late musician Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad, has been permitted by a court to have a second autopsy performed on him.
This happens after the family voiced their displeasure with the first autopsy results, which were considered to be ambiguous.
On September 12, 2023, Mohbad, 27, passed away in disputed circumstances.
On September 21, 2023, his body was unearthed for an autopsy by the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) to determine the cause of his death in response to calls for justice from Nigerians.
The Autopsy’s findings, which were made public on June 7, did not identify the cause of death; the procedure started in September 2023.
The public’s scepticism and contradictory reports led the Aloba family to reject the outcome and call on the Lagos State Government to verify the validity of the Autopsy on June 16.
The family of Mohbad filed an appeal with the presiding magistrate of the coroner’s inquest to make sure that the court receives an independent toxicology report before the authorities receive the final report.
There was no apparent cause of death found in the initial Autopsy, according to the coroner’s inquest.
Permission for a second autopsy was given to Mohad’s family and their legal counsel during a hearing on Wednesday, June 26, at an Ikorodu magistrate court.
The family and their legal representatives attested to obtaining permission from the court to move forward with the extra Autopsy.
During a news conference on Wednesday, Joseph Aloba, Mohbad’s father, thanked the court for approving a second autopsy.
“I appreciate the responses to Mohbad’s death,” he stated. We are grateful to the court for this ruling. The government has given us the order to exhume Mohbad so they may determine what caused his demise, and for good reason.”

During the court proceedings, the singer’s father revealed his surprise at meeting his daughter-in-law Wunmi and his divorced wife, Mohbad’s mother.
“Seeing the mother and wife was sad because we haven’t been in contact for a few days; it was like a shock,” he remarked.
