In rounding off of the activities marking the 21st Combined Convocation Ceremony, the newly conferred Fellow of the institution, Alhaji (Chief) Ganiyu Adetokunboh Ogunfemi, Ph.D yesterday donated wheel chairs to some physically challenged individuals.
Donating the wheel chairs, the fellow reiterated that the physically challenged in our midst are not meant to be pittied, rather they are to be embraced, encouraged and assured that there are abilities in disability.
He said most of these people are not only highly sensitive, they are equally blessed with special traits, skills and intelligence enabling them to compete favourably with their able-bodied colleagues.
Citing as example, his younger physically challenged sibling, who is a chattered accountant, Ogunfemi added that these individuals have much to offer to the society if well integrated into the society.
Among the recipients of the wheelchairs are
Miss Bankole, Olaoluwa Modupeoluwa, a National Diploma graduand from OTM department who was physically present to receive his gift and Mr Ayannuga, Azeez Adekunle, an HND graduate from Civil Engineering department who was unavoidably absent.
Equally gifted with a wheelchair is a staff of the institution, who was intentionally given an anonymous identity.
Presenting the gifts, on behalf of the donor, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr Mukail Aremu Akinde, FCA, FCIT, appreciated Dr Ogunfemi for his tireless efforts towards the advancement of the Polytechnic’s culture of academic excellence.
He stressed that stretching a hand of fellowship to the less privileged is a key to opening doors of blessings.
The Rector who personally gave cash gifts to the recipients equally announced that his management team has automatically employed Miss Bankole, Olaoluwa Modupeoluwa as an Industrial Training (IT) staff with an enhanced stipend above that of her able-bodied counterparts.
In a related development, ‘Fellow’ Ogunfemi equally donated a MEDIA RESOURCES CENTRE to the newly expanded Public Relations and Protocols Unit of the institution to enable the unit project the image of the institution positively and globally.
The well equipped SOLA ABIALA MEDIA RESOURCES CENTRE was commissioned by the Rector, Dr Akinde who appreciated Dr Ogunfemi for speeding up the management’s efforts towards empowering the Unit for higher and greater efficiency cum effectiveness.
The commissioning was climaxed with personal/official gifts of three laptops, one desktop and a tablet to Dr Omowunmi (DSA), Miss Aishat Adebola Adebayo, an ND2 Mass Communication student, the Poly Ilaro 92 1 FM, the ‘Office of Deputy Rector, Admin* and Mr Sola Abiala, the Deputy Registrar, Public Relations respectively.
Dignitaries who witnessed the two events included Dr. (Mrs) C. B. Iro-Idoro, Deputy Rector (Acad), Tpl Lukmon Ademola Lasisi, Deputy Rector, (Admin), Mr. M. B. Akinola, the Bursar, the Dean, Student Affairs, Dr. Joshua Omowunmi was represented by one of the Sub-Deans, Engr Sunday Olowofela other staff and students of the institution
