The excitement is palpable as fans of Kunle Afolayan’s prolific “Aníkúlápó ” rejoice. The much-anticipated announcement is out: Netflix has given the green light for a thrilling second season of the popular show, hinting at more suspense, drama, and surprising turns.
Building on the triumph of “Aníkúlápó: The Rise of the Spectre,” the forthcoming season is slated to venture further into the heart of Nigerian history, customs, and the mystical world.
An engaging narrative unravels, set against the stunning vistas of Oyo State and Ghana. The new season propels the plot beyond the Oyo Empire, introducing new settings and international actors.
The tale springs into motion with a dramatic breakout from the netherworld, setting the stage for a chilling metamorphosis. A formidable character, reborn with an evil power to drain the life essence of others, triggers a stir, pushing the Oyo Empire into a state of chaos.
Prince Aderoju, the Alaafin’s progeny, steps into the spotlight, commencing a brave quest to rescue his sister, Omowunmi, from Portuguese kidnappers.
Concurrently, beloved characters like Akin and Arolake grapple with their struggles as Ogunjimi’s reappearance jeopardises their relationship, priming the stage for a grand face-off.
As Awarun navigates perilous business transactions, this season is overflowing with tension, power disputes, and emotional turns. Replacing their roles are stars like Sola Sobowale, Bimbo Ademoye, and Lateef Adedimeji, with exciting newcomers like Antar Laniyan, Joke Muyiwa, Adebowale Adebayo, and Saidi Balogun joining the ensemble.
“We value the authenticity of our narratives. This season delves into the intricate realities of the slave trade, employing actors from Portugal, Ghana, and Nigeria to illuminate the international links in our history. Filming in Oyo State and Ghana enabled us to anchor the story in locations imbued with our heritage.
We look forward to continuing to share this journey with global audiences and showcasing the richness of our culture,” affirms Kunle Afolayan.
