In the face of widespread poverty and deep-rooted corruption, the northern parts of Nigeria have suffered dramatically over the years.
Vice President Kashim Shettima has attributed the recent wave of vandalism and looting of public and private facilities in these regions to these issues and poor leadership.
Particularly during the graduation ceremony for twenty indigent pupils of Hau’wa Memorial School, owned by AMA Foundation, Shettima, represented by his special adviser on political matters, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmad, highlighted the long-standing toleration of social vices that have cultivated a generation with diminished respect for authority and the rule of law.
“For too long, we have tolerated poverty, corruption, poor leadership, and we can see the result—a generation that has come up that has no respect for God, for the law of the land, for leadership, and our values,” Shettima said.
While reflecting on the recent civil unrest primarily instigated by the youth, Shettima stated, “Young people are angry because they are hungry, young people who do not see any prospects for a better future…”
The incumbent administration, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, committed to restoring Nigeria’s prosperity so that future generations can reap the benefits of the legacies of past leaders.
In conclusion, Shettima encouraged the graduating students to prioritize hard work and integrity while building their futures.
He also reiterated the government’s commitment to fostering an environment where young Nigerians can pursue their education and livelihoods without fear.
The vice president urged young Nigerians and their parents to channel their anger constructively toward changing the political system and instilling good values.
