Onyiuke Nwedeogu, 32, died after setting himself on fire and his house in Ndiechi Igbeagu, Izzi LGA, Ebonyi State.
FMT BLOG reports that the unfortunate incident comes after a domestic dispute between the deceased and his wife.
According to Vanguard, on Sunday morning, after abusing his wife, Felicia Nwedeogu, Onyiuke took his clothes, went to the family provision shop, and burnt it to the ground next to him.
He later died from injuries incurred in a fire while undergoing treatment at the Alex Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital (AE-FETHA) on Wednesday.
The couple’s struggles had, sources said, run their course for decades, and both families had attempted to intervene but failed.
Before the murder, Onyiuke reportedly stripped window guards from the house where his wife and three daughters were sleeping, and burned it down with petrol. Fortunately, neighbours rescued the wife and children before the fire spread.
Onyiuke reportedly parked his bus near their store and set himself on fire, thinking he’d accomplished his goal of killing his family.
The DSP Joshua Ukandu, the Public Relations Officer for the Ebonyi State Police, disclosed that the command has not received any formal confirmation of the incident as of this publication.
The bodies of the deceased have been taken to the AE-FETHA mortuary, and further enquiries will follow.
