Ogun state police have arrested Olayemi Shedrack, a 33-year-old man who was on their wanted list. Shedrack is accused of sexual assault against female students from the state’s Tai Solarin University of Education (Tasued) Ijagun, along with theft.
According to Omolola Odutola, the police spokesperson, Shedrack was apprehended in Ijagun thanks to information received from the public. He was identified in the crowd and swiftly taken into custody.
Shedrack is associated with an incident of armed robbery and sexual assault that occurred on 21st July 2024. It is alleged that he, along with others, entered the female royal villa accommodation within Tai University of Education.
Here, they stole laptops, iPhones, sports watches, and cash from the students and committed sexual assault before fleeing the scene.
Shedrack is currently at Igbeba police station, Ijebu-Ode, for further questioning.
The police assure him that he will be quickly transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a detailed investigation and prosecution.
The police commissioner, Alamutu Abiodun, is aware of the arrest and has ordered the capture of Shedrack’s accomplices. The commissioner urges the Ijagun community to assist the police with any information that can lead to the arrest of the other suspects involved.
