Delving deeper into the smart home arena, Samsung introduced SmartThings Family Care today, the latest addition to its extensive SmartThings smart home platform.
This newly unveiled feature offers caregivers a lifeline through activity alerts, location-based care, reminders for medication, and schedule management tailored to make their job easier.
Introducing the SmartThings Family Care: A Modern Solution for Caregivers
The SmartThings Family Care feature will be available to SmartThings app users in the US starting August 16, 2024. It utilizes the existing SmartThings smart home platform to offer critical services when caring for seniors or those needing similar assistance.
To access SmartThings Family Care, users must navigate to the Life tab within the SmartThings app.
Samsung has designed the SmartThings Family Care feature to allow caregivers to receive activity alerts, initiate location-based actions, set reminders for medication, and manage schedules using compatible devices.
Alerts can be sent to caregivers if inconsistencies are detected in the daily activities of the individuals they care for. Through the innovative use of Galaxy phones, the feature can detect the person’s first activity of the day and notify the designated caregiver to inform them of their loved one’s well-being.
Users can schedule reminders for medical check-ups and medications, which can be received via Galaxy smartphones or other Samsung devices such as TVs.
Ensuring the Safety of Loved Ones with SmartThings Family Care
Using SmartThings Family Care, alerts can be generated when older people or individuals in care leave or reach a specific location, facilitating their safety.
For instance, a notification can be sent when older adults return from their morning walk.
Moreover, SmartThings Family Care also aids caregivers in managing compatible devices to conserve energy. An example would be the automatic shutdown of an air conditioner when an individual leaves their room or home.
Alternatively, air purifiers can be programmed to switch on when outdoor pollution levels rise.
As Jaeyeon Jung, Executive Vice President and Head of SmartThings, stated, “Family Care is our response to the constant, real-world hurdles families face in an increasingly aging society.
Using advanced AI technology, we aim to provide more innovative, more intuitive solutions that enhance the quality of life for our customers and their loved ones.”
