In an unfortunate incident at His Majesty Group of Schools in Sapele, Delta State, school proprietress Mrs Fatima Umukoro was reportedly murdered by her 25-year-old son, Emmanuel Umukoro, as per Punch reports. The incident took place on the night of September 8, 2024.
Widely recognized in Sapele, the deceased was married to Rev Prince Umukoro, the incumbent pastor of Victory Family Assembly Int’l (VIFA). Allegedly, the suspect, Emmanuel, had been encountering mental health struggles, intensified by possible substance misuse.
Despite rehabilitation efforts, Emmanuel’s battles with narcotics dependency continued, escalating into erratic explosions.
Eyewitness reports shared with the publication unveiled a grim scene- Emmanuel supposedly assaulting his mother with an axe and setting her body on fire. Observers recount the unusual incident of the Umukoro residence gate being left ajar around 10 pm, which raised alarms among neighbours and passersby, who then discovered the horrifying scene inside the house.
Suspiciously, Emmanuel Umukoro was seen speeding away from the compound in his mother’s car around 8:30 pm. His suspicious actions led to his capture by the police along Sapele-Warri Road as he tried to flee to an undisclosed location.
SP Bright Edafe, the representative of the State Police Command, verified the incident on Sunday, September 9, stating, “The son is under police control now, but it’s unclear if he is responsible for the murder until the investigation conclusion.”
