After appearing in a police uniform in one of his most recent videos, social commentator Martins Otse, better known online as VeryDarkMan issued a public apology to the Nigeria Police Force.
As previously reported by FMT BLOG, the police opened an investigation after denouncing his improper usage of the uniform.
In the video that sparked controversy, VeryDarkMan humorously referred to himself as a “Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) of the Online Division” while wearing a police uniform.
He posted an apology video on Thursday in response to the subsequent criticism, expressing deep regret for dressing in what appears to be the official police outfit.
He advised Nigerians to always seek the appropriate permission before wearing police uniforms in order to avoid misunderstandings or legal issues.
“And also, I would like to use this medium to tell the general public that before using anything that might look like their uniform, always get permission from the police or other law enforcement agencies,” he added.
He warned that while some may have good intentions, others could misuse the uniform. Therefore, it’s crucial to obtain full approval before using anything that might be seen as impersonating a police officer.
He concluded by expressing gratitude to his lawyer, stating, “And also shout out to my lawyer @adeyanjudeji, who is always ready to stand.”
