Google has enhanced its TalkBack feature with AI-powered image description capabilities, but this feature is not compatible with Samsung Galaxy smartphones.
TalkBack is a pre-installed screen reader application available on most Android devices, except for Samsung Galaxy devices running One UI skin. Google is introducing a new feature that provides AI-powered image descriptions.
Samsung Galaxy devices lack this feature because Samsung offers its own dedicated accessibility tools, including a custom TalkBack service. Google allows device manufacturers to skip pre-installing the Android Accessibility Suite if they provide alternative accessibility tools that meet specific standards.
The TalkBack service is preloaded and available on Galaxy devices running One UI and offers almost all the features available in Google’s version provided through the Android Accessibility Suite app.

However, Samsung’s TalkBack is similar to Google’s, despite being a separate app updated through the Galaxy Store instead of the Play Store.
The pre-installed TalkBack service on Galaxy smartphones is incompatible with Google’s TalkBack due to automatic overriding. This incompatibility prevents Galaxy devices from accessing Google’s new AI-powered image description feature, which is available for most Android smartphones running Android 11 or later.
Samsung has not yet officially announced whether it will offer a new AI-powered image description feature or update its TalkBack screen reader service.

It is possible that Samsung may leverage Google’s Gemini AI or another AI model for this feature, but this has not been confirmed.
