WhatsApp is set to bring the latest beta update and introduce a new feature called the Grey Ring for status updates. Currently available for Android users on version 2.24.22.2 via the Google Play Beta Program, this feature brings a new convenience to the way users interact with status updates.
In essence, what this update does is provide users with the opportunity to revisit status updates straight from the chats tab. This is a significant improvement as it eliminates the need to go back to the Status tab to view previously seen updates.
In the former version, a coloured ring appeared around the profile picture of a user who posted a new status. This ring would vanish once the status has been viewed.
However, WhatsApp has now improved this by ensuring the ring stays visible even after viewing the status, but it turns grey.
The Grey Ring essentially signifies that the status can be revisited by just tapping on it. This comes as an advantage for users wishing to see a status again without the hassle of returning to the Status tab.
For now, the Grey Ring Status feature is only available to some beta testers who have installed the recent WhatsApp beta update. WhatsApp is gradually rolling out the feature to beta users and aims to make it accessible to all users soon through upcoming updates.
