Screenwriter Opeyemi Akande, from Nigeria, sparks on social media when he expresses his views about the Ojude Oba festival, which took place in Ogun state on Tuesday, June 18.

Yesterday, pictures from the event circulated on social media, and many Nigerians enjoyed the rich cultural legacy on show. Ijebu-Ode, a significant town in Ogun State, southwest Nigeria, is home to the Yoruba people, who celebrate Ojude Oba, an old festival.

The celebration honours and pays homage to the Royal Majesty, the Awujale of Ijebuland, and is often held on the third day following Eid el-Kabir.

The Nigerian screenwriter Opeyemi Akande wrote;

’Ojude Oba is the only thing they know in that Ogun state. Light dem no get. Road? Nothing. Just Adire and Aso Oke.
