JAPA Doom As Nigerian Man Kills His Wife Barely A Year After Relocating To the UK (Photos)
Taiwo Owoeye Abodunde, a Nigerian nurse and mother of three, died tragically on Tuesday morning in Newmarket, Suffolk, the United Kingdom (UK).
The circumstances surrounding her death revealed a story of marital strife, home strife, and a police response that is now under severe investigation.
As the community mourns the loss, there are concerns about the effectiveness of interventions in weaving a story that crosses borders and cultures.
The police contact was unplanned, sparked by a follow-up visit connected to a previous accusation of violence against her estranged spouse, David Olubunni Abodunde.
The police described the visit as “a pre-arranged meeting to gather evidence in relation to the assault allegations made against Olubunni Abodunde on November 27 by Taiwo, which led to his arrest.”
According to the police report, they arrived at 259 Exning Road, Newmarket, Taiwo’s home location, at 9:55 a.m. on Tuesday, November 28, 2023. When they arrived at the house, they found her unresponsive on the living room floor. Despite immediate medical assistance, paramedics pronounced Taiwo’s death in an instant.
The deceased husband, Olubunni Abodunde, was seen inside the house and nabbed on suspicion of her murder. He was transported to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for interrogation before appearing for a preliminary hearing at Ipswich Crown Court and Suffolk Magistrates’ Court.
According to the spokesperson of IOPC, He said, ” Because officers had been summoned to the address earlier, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is also looking into the force’s response.
“We can confirm we have received a request from Suffolk Constabulary in relation to this incident and we are carrying out an assessment to determine what further action may be required from us.” The IOPC’s intervention was sparked by the police’s suspicious failure to follow up on a previous correspondence with Taiwo’s family on November 27, 2023, regarding an earlier attack.
“On Monday November 27 2023, Taiwo contacted Suffolk Police reporting an assault by Olubunni on her that day and a further assault from August 15 2023,” the police confirmed. At 10:23 a.m. on November 27, 2023, Olubunni was detained on suspicion of both assaults.
He was freed from police detention at 6:20 p.m. on November 27, 2023, with police bail restrictions. The bail conditions set by the police were: do not go to 239 Exning Road, Newmarket, CB9 0AY. Taiwo Abodunde should not be contacted directly or indirectly, except through a third party to arrange child contact.
“The incorrect address on the bail condition of 239 Exning Road, Newmarket should have been recorded as 259 Exning Road, Newmarket.” When Suffolk Police arrived at Taiwo’s home on November 28, it was for a pre-arranged meeting to gather evidence about the assault charges made against Olubunni Abodunde on November 27, which led to his arrest.
Suffolk Constabulary has referred Taiwo to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to the recent police encounter with him.
“We will keep you updated on the progress of this process.” We also want you to know that we first identified two sequences about what transpired, but after further investigation, we have eliminated one scene while keeping the other. This is still an area where evidence can be found.”
More than anything else, the police’s chance discovery of the dead constituted a leg in the intrigue and misfortune faced by a family entangled in marital discord, domestic violence, and the struggle for economic survival just outside the tranquil towns of Ipoti Ekiti and Igogo Ekiti.
Taiwo was from Igogo Ekiti, and Olubunmi was from Ipoti Ekiti. They met in 2004 during an Adventist Church social-religious camp for young people in Otun, Ekiti.
It wasn’t love at first sight, but Taiwo eventually agreed to date and marry Bunmi after much lobbying from her husband.

“This is to officially announce the painful Exit of my dear sister, Nurse Owoeye Taiwo Morenikeji, married to Abodunde David Olubunmi of Ipoti Ekiti.
According to Suffolk Police in the UK and the available documents/records sent to us via mail/ direct conversations from the UK Police, after thoroughly conducted investigations, despite being caught in the act, he (the husband) was declared the sole murderer of his wife (my sister). The children are currently being cared for by UK social services.
On this note, I want to tell the entire member of Owoeyes’ family to stay calm (though painful) as justice will be served on the killer in due course. Be rest assured. I want to thank the UK Govt, Detective Peter Amy, the hired Private investigators, and the Nigeria Embassy in London for their professionalism.
