General elections: Osun residents troop out to cast their vote

The presidential and National Assembly elections in Osun began peacefully, with voters turning out in large numbers to fulfil their civic duty.

This is despite the lack of cash and the pre-election violence that has engulfed parts of the state, particularly the federal constituencies of Ijesa North and Ijesa South.

When supporters of the two major political parties, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the All Progressives Congress, APC, clashed, several lives were lost and property was destroyed, according to reports.

In a radio interview on Friday, Agboke, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Resident Electoral Commissioner for Osun, stated that voting would begin at 8:30 a.m. and end at 2:30 p.m. in all PUs.

Agboke also warned that anyone who did not have a Permanent Voter Card would be disenfranchised and prosecuted.

The residents were also observed by the police to be complying with the movement restrictions.

Security personnel were also on hand to prevent any unforeseen events.
