Former Imo State Deputy Governor arrested

Safety operatives have arrested former deputy governor of Imo state, Gerald Irona.

 

An eyewitness who disclosed this to newsmen in Owerri stated he was arrested from his Owerri residence at about 10:15 am on Wednesday, March 8.

 

Irona was stated to have been detained on the Imo State Police Command.

 

It was not clear why Irona was arrested however a press release by his media advisor, Future Ugorji accused the State Authorities of orchestrating his arrest over what he described as “trumped-up fees.”

 

The assertion reads: “As a part of its technique in direction of weakening opposition in Imo State, the Imo State Authorities, Wednesday, orchestrated the arrest of the rapid previous Deputy Governor, Engr. Gerald Irona, over trumped-up fees. 

 

“Irona’s arrest got here on the heels of a scheduled Home of Meeting and gubernatorial election, mounted to carry nationwide on Saturday, March 11, 2023. 

 

“As on the time of this assertion, Wednesday afternoon, the previous Deputy Governor had written his Assertion on the Police, a bail bond issued, signed, and all of the bail situations fulfilled.”
