On Thursday, July 20, a fire broke out at Lagos Ports and Cargo Terminal berths 7 and 8 at Tin Can Island port in Lagos, when a crane caught fire and impacted a vessel, MV. ALGECIRAS EXPRESS, which was reported to have been loaded with containers.

According to eyewitnesses, the crane caught fire while offloading containers from the vessel, and the fire then spread to the vessel and other containers. The fire, which included a Liebherr crane and the Mv Hapag-Lloyd, was apparently sparked by a technical problem and burned for almost four hours before being brought under control by firefighters.
