”The Highest Money I Actually Collected When I Was Doing Gospel Music Is N70k”-Duduke Crooner, Simi Reveals
Simisola Kosoko, better known as Simi, an award-winning Nigerian singer, has stated that when she was a gospel performer, she was paid as little as N5,000-10,000 as a performance fee. She added that the highest money she had ever been paid was N70,000.
The ‘Duduke’ singer said this during an interview section on MTV Base Africa’s Official Naija Top 10 show.
She said that she quit singing at some point because she was not generating enough money from Christian music to cover studio sections and marketing.
She said,
“I actually used to go to a lot of churches to perform. They will pay me like N5k, N10k. Do you know the highest amount of money I actually collected when I was doing gospel [music]? N70,000. And I felt like I had arrived. I still paid a 10 per cent tithe from the money.”
Simi said that due to a lack of funds, she was contracted to a record company that she regrets joining to this day.
Because of the difficulties she found in the evangelical music business, the mother of one subsequently shifted to secular music.
