Godwin Emefiele, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, has been released from the Kuje Correctional Centre.

Emefiele was released on Friday, December 22, after meeting the terms of his bail. Adamu Duza, a spokesman for the Kuje Correctional Centre in the Federal Capital Territory, confirmed this.

“I can confirm that he (Emefiele) has fulfilled his bail conditions and thus has no reason to remain in our facility.” He complied with his bail conditions and was released about 2 p.m. yesterday (Friday).”

Emefiele, who is being tried for alleged procurement fraud, was granted N300 million bail by a Federal Capital Territory High Court.

He was granted bail with two sureties in the same amount. Sureties must have certificates of occupancy and titles to properties in Abuja’s Maitama District.

Emefiele was also ordered to submit his travel documents to the court’s registrar and stay within the Abuja Municipal Area Council.
