The Joint European Union-United Nations Spotlight Initiative, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Foundation for Resilient Empowerment and Development (FRED), is gearing up to release a Nigerian film addressing the ongoing issue of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) to the public.
The trailer for this star-studded film, crafted to spark meaningful conversations and increase awareness about gender social norms, challenges, and the societal impact of GBV on women and girls, was unveiled to the media and key stakeholders on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at the United Nations (UN) Auditorium in Abuja.
The trailer showcased vital aspects of the movie that will capture the attention of Nigerians, stimulate their thoughts, and convey essential lessons about GBV issues in our society. It featured moments of reflection, sombre moods, anger, and scenes intended to inspire unwavering support and a collective determination to combat this scourge.
Alongside the announcement is an image displaying Nollywood superstars, Toni Tones, Kate Henshaw, Femi Jacobs, Daniel Etim Effiong, Chidi Mokeme, and Bimbo Akintola, titled “Deafening Silence” Movie Stars. The film’s trailer is now available for viewing, to engage the public in the narrative and garner support for the fight against GBV.

Directed by Biodun Stephen , the narrative delves into the issue of gender-based violence in Nigeria. Its purpose is to keep Nigerians engaged, stimulate their thoughts, and impart vital lessons regarding gender-based violence issues prevalent in society.
Produced by Emem Isong Misodi, the film boasts an exceptional cast, including Chidi Mokeme, Kate Henshaw, Bimbo Akintola, Toni Tones, Daniel Etim-Effiong, Femi Jacobs, Derby Felix, Ekamma Etim-Inyang, and many others.
The movie vividly portrays the actions and repercussions of gender-based violence in a typical Nigerian society. Charles Ebuebu, the Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission, has affirmed the commission’s dedication to actively combat and raise awareness against gender-based violence, intending to reduce its prevalence in the country.
Mr. Ebuebu emphasized the pivotal role of the broadcast media as a crucial platform for conveying the anti-gender-based violence message, highlighting its influence in shaping ideas, policies, and public perception.
