A group of students at Oyo State’s Ajayi Crowther University (ACU) are said to have beaten to death Alex Timileyin, a 200-level student, for taking a cell phone.

On Saturday, May 25, 2024, the event occurred in a Shepherd Inn hotel on school grounds.

One report said that the students had also shaved the dead man’s hair off with force.

A school source who spoke to the Punch on the condition of anonymity because the story was private said that the victim was beaten from Friday at 6 pm to Saturday around 10 am.

“They said they caught him with a stolen phone. They started hitting him from 6 pm yesterday (Friday) until he died at about 10 am today (Saturday). The event happened at ‘Shepherd Inn’. It’s like a camp or a hotel now. They also shaved the hair of the guy before hitting him,” the source said.

Meanwhile, the management of Ajayi Crowther University (ACU) has removed the students of the school who were involved in the death of a fellow student.

The expulsion was made known in a statement released by the spokesman of the school, Femi Atoyebi, on Saturday, May 25.

The University stated that contrary to what has been trending, cultism is non-existent in the school, just as it stressed its zero tolerance for any anti-societal vices and misbehaviour.

“Contrary to what is trending, the university affirms that there is no cultism in the institution, just as the university has zero tolerance for any sort of anti-societal vices and misconduct,” the statement read.

“It is important to stress that the expelled students do not belong to any cult group.”

In addition to the dismissal, the University has turned all the students involved over to investigators in Oyo State Police Command for investigation.
