Iran is in mourning as news breaks that President Ebrahim Raisi has tragically passed away in a helicopter crash. 

The incident occurred on Sunday, May 19, in the country’s mountainous and forested areas due to poor weather conditions.

Raisi was onboard the helicopter along with other top officials, including the foreign minister, when it crashed in the northwest region of Iran.

Search and rescue teams were deployed to locate the missing aircraft. Still, unfortunately, no survivors were found at the crash site in the protected forest area of Dizmar near Varzaghan.

The nation anxiously awaited news of Raisi’s fate as the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, assured the public that there would be no disruption in the country’s leadership. 

However, hopes were dashed as it was confirmed that the president did not survive the crash.

Raisi, a hardline conservative, only took office in 2021 after winning a controversial election. He was seen as the second-most influential figure in the Iranian government after the Supreme Leader.
