This move is prompted by a recent audio recording released by social critic Martins Otse, alias VeryDarkMan, wherein the crossdresser Idris Okuneye, known widely as Bobrisky, is heard to claim that the EFCC dismissed money laundering accusations against him after a bribe of N15 million. Read here

This concern surfaced on September 26 in the ongoing plenary session when lawmaker Patrick Umoh, representing the Ikot Ekpene/Essien Udim/Obot Akara Federal Constituency in Akwa Ibom State, brought up the issue.

He expressed apprehension over the impact of such allegations on Nigeria’s reputation and stressed the need for immediate action.

The assertion implies that the EFCC dropped the money laundering charges against Bobrisky after obtaining the said amount.

It also claims that Bobrisky, found guilty by the court of Naira abuse and defacing, did not serve his sentence at the Nigeria Correctional Service and was kept elsewhere.

Umoh accentuated the ill effects these allegations can have on the country’s image and insisted that they not be ignored. As directed by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, who was overseeing the plenary session, the matter has been handed over to the Committees on Financial Crimes and Reformatory Institutions.
