The main suspect, Simon Ekpa, was arrested on charges of public incitement to a terrorist act. They arrested the four men who were in his company on charges of financing a terrorist attack.

Otto Hiltunen, the commissioner of crime who heads the probe, revealed that social media played a part in Ekpa’s conduct. These other four suspects allegedly funded the investigation.

However, the police statement further revealed that the investigation was rooted in a Nigerian-born Finnish citizen born in the 1980s who is accused of public incitement to commit a terrorist crime. They believe the man has been selling his goods in Finland and carrying out crimes in southern Nigeria.

The arrests were confirmed to have occurred early in the week. International collaboration accompanied the original inquiry, the statement added.
