We Reached Out To Kemi Badenoch A Few Times, But No Response—Abike Dabiri-Erewa (Video)

We contacted Kemi Badenoch several times, but she ignored us—NIDCOM boss Abike Dabiri-Erewa.

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), says Nigeria will not push Kemi Badenoch, the newly elected leader of the UK’s Conservative Party, to identify with her Nigerian heritage.

Dabiri-Erewa, whose office regulates the activities of Nigerians in the diaspora, revealed that her office had contacted Badenoch several times but received no response.
“It depends on whether she recognises her Nigerian identity.

We’ve reached out to her once or twice and received no reaction, so we don’t force individuals to accept being Nigerian,” Dabiri-Erewa said on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Wednesday when asked if the government had identified with Badenoch.

“If you value your Nigerian identity and want to work with us, we welcome everyone, but we cannot force you to value it. You are aware of the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant held in South Africa.

“Until she ran into some problems with South Africa, she associated with Nigeria, and she came to Nigeria, where we accommodated her. You are a Nigerian as long as you have that blood in you.

“So, it depends on Kemi to decide whether she appreciates the Nigerianess in her, whether she wants to work with Nigeria, but we cannot force anybody.”

On Saturday, the Conservatives elected Badenoch as their new leader, succeeding Rishi Sunak, who resigned following the party’s catastrophic performance in the July general election.
