Human Rights Lawyer And Activist Dele Farotimi Granted Bail, See Conditions!

Human rights lawyer and activist Dele Farotimi has been released from custody on bail, set at N50 million.

Farotimi was let go under the condition that a surety of an equivalent amount be put forward, with the added requirement of landed property as collateral.

The news was publicised by fellow activist Omoyele Sowore, who also brought to light that the court has adjourned the case till January 29, 2025.

Farotimi was behind bars after a complaint by distinguished legal personage Afe Babalola (SAN).

Farotimi stood accused of disseminating false information via his book, ‘Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System.’ The book purportedly contained derogatory allegations against Babalola’s reputation.

Specifically, the book accused Babalola and other lawyers of wrongly influencing the Supreme Court. The court maintained that these allegedly false statements could generate public fear, damage reputations, and disturb peace.
