OG Maco, Nigerian-American Rapper, Dies At 32

OG Maco, a Nigerian-American rapper who became popular for his 2014 hit “U Guessed It,” died at the age of 32 weeks after sustaining a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The rapper, born Benedict Chiajulam Ihesiba Jr., has died, and his family revealed this on social media.

Below is the official statement by the deceased family:

“With sorrowful hearts, we announce the death of our beloved Ben, also known as OG Maco.

“His life exemplified resilience, creativity, and infinite love. His music, passion, and unshakeable spirit touched many people’s lives, leaving an indelible mark.

“While we mourn his enormous loss, we also celebrate the wonderful life he led, which will continue to inspire and encourage others. Maco’s influence as an artist and person will live on in our hearts forever.”

The letter concluded, “For those who desire to express condolences, share memories, or contact with the family, please do so through this account. Your support means more than words can say.

“To all of Maco’s followers, friends, and supporters, thank you for supporting him during his journey. Today, we commemorate a life that was remarkable in every way.”

According to TMZ, Maco was admitted to the hospital on December 12 with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was in a coma for two weeks before deteriorating and requiring critical care.

Maco had significant health challenges over the years, including a terrible vehicle accident in 2016 that nearly cost him his right eye. In 2019, he became sick with flesh-eating bacteria.

With its remix featuring 2 Chainz, Maco’s song “U Guessed It” reached the Billboard Hot 100. Later that year, he signed with Atlanta-based rap label Quality Control, which also houses Quavo and Lil Baby and was previously home to the City Girls, Offset, and Takeoff.
