I Don’t Want Britain To Lose Its ‘Prosperity’ Like Nigeria—Kemi Badenoch

Kemi Badenoch, leader of the UK Conservative Party, has expressed her intention to protect Britain from experiencing the repercussions of poor administration, drawing on her own experiences growing up in Nigeria.

In her first speech of the year, Badenoch emphasised her dedication to “real conservatism” to secure a “better, richer, and safer” future for younger generations in the United Kingdom.

“I understand what it is like to lose something valuable. “I don’t want Britain to lose what it has,” Badenoch stated Thursday. Reflecting on her upbringing, she described how her once-rich family became poorer due to inflation and weak administration.

“I grew up in a poor country and watched my family work harder but grow poorer as their money disappeared.”

Badenoch described her migration to the UK at 16 with her father’s final £100, describing it as a quest for better opportunities.

“I’ve lived with the consequences of a terrible government that destroys lives, and I never want that to happen here,” she stated, emphasising the necessity of maintaining Britain’s stability and prosperity.

Her criticism of Nigeria isn’t new. Previously, Badenoch described Nigerian police as “armed robbers” that exploit citizens rather than defend them.

These remarks have elicited strong condemnation, including a response from Nigeria’s Vice President Kashim Shettima, who recommended she change her name if she no longer wished to be linked with Nigeria, which he described as the “greatest Black nation on earth.”

Badenoch’s remarks reinforce her overall message about the perils of misgovernance and the necessity for policies that prioritise long-term national well-being.
