Samsung One UI 8 Leak May Stop One UI 7.1 Release- Report

Samsung appears to be omitting the incremental One UI 7.1 release. Prior to One UI 6.1, Samsung consistently launched a new x.1 iteration with each Galaxy S series release.

However, the 2025 strategy shows a significant departure from this practice.

Recent reverse engineering of Samsung applications by Smartprix uncovered evidence of One UI 8, with source code referencing One UI 6.1 (6_1), One UI 6.1.1 (6_1_1), and One UI 8 (8_0), thus indicating the absence of One UI 7.1 (7_1).

Samsung is evaluating the integration of Decal Shader support into One UI 8.0, currently in Beta, to enhance its competitiveness with Apple’s mobile software.

Reports suggest that One UI 7.1 may not be released, with a credible source indicating that the Galaxy S25 series will likely launch without it, and any subsequent release may be delayed by one to two months.

This simplification of the One UI versioning strategy aims to optimize development and distribution, following the discontinuation of the Note series and the associated x.5 versions.

Feature availability is not contingent upon the version number. Samsung could, if desired, equip One UI 7.0 with all the latest features, negating the need for 7.1.

Consequently, new Galaxy devices would launch with One UI 7.0 instead of 7.1.This year’s One UI Beta Program is exclusive to the latest Galaxy S series. Older flagship devices will receive a stable One UI 7.0 update directly.
