Nollywood, Social Media & Prosperity Preachers Are Responsible For ‘Get Rich Quick’ Syndrome—Oluremi Tinubu

Oluremi Tinubu, former senator and the wife of President Bola Tinubu, has said distorted messages sent by some films, social media, and religious organisations are fuelling the get-rich-quick syndrome, which is also driving Nigeria’s high prevalence of human trafficking in persons.

She said this on Friday, February 7, when senior management of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Persons (NAPTIP), Binta Bello, led the agency to her office at the State House, Abuja.

Mrs. Tinubu also promised assistance to the agency’s continuous fight against human trafficking.

Senior Special Assistant to the First Lady on Media, Busola Kukoyi, in a statement headed “First Lady reiterates call for re-orientation for hard work and patience,” said Mrs Tinubu also promised.

After briefing the First Lady on agency operations, especially the recent raid on a baby factory in Abuja where 19 pregnant young girls were rescued, she urged young people to reject easy targets for traffickers and other criminally minded individuals by adopting the virtues of patience and hard work.

“The get-rich-quick syndrome is not helping matters. Our religious institutions preach prosperity, and even the Bible talks about work. Social media is also not helping. Nollywood as well,” the statement read.
