Nigerian singer Shallipopi criticised the organisers of the 17th edition of the Headies after receiving only a handshake on stage rather than an award plaque.

It’s important to note that Shallipopi lost the contentious “Next Rated” category to his peer, Odumodublvck. Nevertheless, he secured the award for ‘Best Rap Single of the Year’ with his track ‘Cast’.

When Shallipopi arrived on stage, he was merely given a handshake as the organisers announced they had run out of award plaques.

Feeling upset, Shallipopi expressed his frustration on his Twitter account and declared his intention to boycott future award ceremonies.

He also mentioned that he did not even want the award for ‘Best Rap Single’ because he doesn’t view himself as a rapper.

“The next one if una see me make I bend.

“I nor go even lie for una sef, I nor want that award. Give the real rappers wey dey the category. Me, Shallipopi I nor be rapper.”
