Nigerian Singer Terry Apala Remanded Over Alleged Naira Mutilation
The court has remanded singer Terry Apala for allegedly mutilating Naira notes in Lagos.
On Friday, April 25, Justice Akintayo Aluko of the Federal High Court located in Ikoyi, Lagos, ordered that Terry Alexander Ejeh, known as Terry Apala, be held in a Correctional Centre due to alleged Naira note mutilation.
On Friday, April 25, 2025, he was charged by the Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with a single count of mutilating Naira notes.

The charge states: “That you, TERRY ALEXANDER EJEH, on January 5, 2025, at La Madison Place, Oniru, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, while performing at a social event, tampered with Naira notes issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by stepping on them, thus committing an offense punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007.”
When the charge was presented, he entered a plea of not guilty.
Given his plea, prosecution counsel S.I. Suleiman requested a trial date and asked the court to keep him in a Correctional Centre.
The defense attorney, Felix Nwabuda, made the court aware of a bail application dated April 23, 2025, and sought a prompt date for the hearing of the said application.
“While requesting the court to set a short date for the bail application hearing, I am also asking the court to release the defendant to the defense.
We promise to ensure he appears in court and will not avoid the proceedings. He arrived from the United Kingdom on April 23, 2025, at the invitation of the EFCC, and came voluntarily.”
The prosecution counsel, however, contested the application, stating, “The application is unusual and unprecedented.”
“I urge the court to allow us time to review the application and respond appropriately, enabling the court to make an informed decision,” he added.
In a brief ruling, Justice Aluko denied the defense’s application.
