Oluremi Tinubu Empowers 500 Business Women in Delta State

In a strong move to support women and boost economic growth, the wife of Nigeria’s President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has empowered 500 business women in Delta State.

This was done through an economic empowerment programme aimed at helping women grow their businesses and achieve financial independence.

The event took place on Saturday in Asaba, the capital city of Delta State. At the ceremony, the women entrepreneurs received important business tools such as deep freezers, gas cookers with ovens, generators, and grain-grinding machines to help them start or expand their businesses.

Speaking through Mrs. Catherine Onyeme, the wife of the Delta State Deputy Governor, the First Lady highlighted the importance of supporting women to achieve national growth and development.

She said, “This programme acknowledges the vital role women play in nation-building and aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which emphasizes inclusivity, economic growth, and sustainable development for all Nigerians, with a particular focus on empowering women economically.”

Oluremi Tinubu explained that empowering women is key to achieving two major global goals: SDG-5 (Gender Equality) and SDG-8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth).

“The items being distributed today are intended to equip our women with the tools and resources they need to build successful businesses and contribute to the prosperity of our great nation,” she added.

She also shared that this effort is part of a larger programme that will reach 18,500 women across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, ensuring women from different parts of the country benefit from the initiative.

Also present at the event was Mrs. Tobore Oborevwori, the wife of the Delta State Governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Pat Ajudua. She encouraged the beneficiaries to make good use of the equipment given to them.

“This empowerment is not a handout, but a way to build your skills and capacity to shape a better future,” she said.

Mrs. Oborevwori pointed out that the programme supports Nigeria’s wider efforts to reduce poverty and hunger, which are among the main goals of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. She praised the government’s commitment to inclusive growth through real partnerships and practical support.

The women who received the business tools were urged to take advantage of the opportunity to create strong businesses and help drive economic growth in their communities.
