Renowned Nigerian politician, Peter Obi supports Yusuf Alabi, a young boy who recently gained national attention following his release from unjust detention. The former presidential candidate is receiving praise from Nigerians for his promise to sponsor Yusuf’s education.

Yusuf Alabi, a teenager whose image once went viral during the 2023 General Election, was recently freed from the Kirikiri Correctional Facility in Lagos. His release sparked excitement and relief across social media.

FMT Blog recalls that Yusuf’s freedom came after popular human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, announced it on Facebook. According to Effiong, the Federal High Court in Lagos ordered the Nigerian Police to pay N100 million in damages to Yusuf and issue a public apology for his unlawful arrest and detention.

Taking to his official X handle (formerly Twitter), Peter Obi shared his personal meeting with Yusuf, praising the teenager’s courage and determination.

Peter Obi wrote:
“Today, I had the opportunity to meet with Quadri Yusuf Alabi, the young boy whose story moved us all. After enduring unjust and illegal incarceration, he is finally free.

Despite all he has been through, his only dream is to return to school and complete his education — and I will make sure he gets it.

His determination is not just inspiring; it is a call to action, and I am committed to ensuring that he gets the education he desires and deserves.
