Breaking: Massive Protest Ongoing In Somolu Over Perceived LG Candidate ‘Imposition’ (VIDEOS)
Members of the Somolu community have taken to the streets in large numbers to voice their concerns over what they perceive as the ‘imposition’ of a Local Government Chairman.
This demonstration follows recent reports by FMTBLOG highlighting the Somolu Muslim Community’s rejection of a viral letter encouraging voters to support an APC Christian candidate for the upcoming elections. Read here
The unrest stems from accusations against the current Somolu Local Government Chairman, Abdul Hamed Salawu widely known as Dullar backed by Hon. Faleke. According to an eyewitness who wished to remain anonymous, Dullar’s administration is allegedly attempting to impose a candidate named Hon. Lateef Ashimi, instead of the community’s preferred choice, Hon. Bowale Sosimi.
This situation has sparked significant discontent, leading to mass protests where demonstrators chanted, “Dullar, Ole!” which translates to “Dullar, Thief!”
Further complicating matters, the current Chief Imam has reportedly played a controversial role in the unrest. The same eyewitness indicated that the Imam was involved in drafting a letter advocating for the approval of only Muslim candidates for the forthcoming local government elections, intensifying the tension within the community.
During today’s protest, demonstrators also directed their frustrations towards the Chief Imam, chanting “Chief Imam, ole!” which means “Chief Imam is a thief.”
As of this report, the protests have remained peaceful, with no violence or casualties reported. The community continues to stand united against what they view as oppressive tactics, firmly asserting their right to have their voices heard in the electoral process.
