Hero Immigration Officer to Be Honoured for Arresting Suspected Ritualist

An officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Ugochukwu Orji, is set to be honoured by his hometown, Isiala Ngwa in Abia State, for his remarkable integrity and bravery.

Orji, who hails from Isiala Ngwa, gained public attention after he arrested Levi Obieze, a suspected ritualist from Enugu State who had been on the run.

What made Orji’s actions even more commendable was his refusal to accept a bribe of ₦10 million reportedly offered to him in exchange for letting the suspect go.

Recognizing his courageous act, Hon. Ginger Onwusibe, the lawmaker representing Isiala Ngwa North/Isiala Ngwa South Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, announced that the community has decided to publicly honour Officer Orji.

Onwusibe, who also co-chairs the planning committee for a Grand Civic Reception in honour of Governor Alex Otti, said Orji will be celebrated alongside the Governor during the event.

“Congratulations, our dear brother. You have made us proud and shown that Isiala Ngwa people can be trusted,” Onwusibe said.

He further mentioned that arrangements have been made to cover Orji’s travel expenses so he can attend the event. A formal request has also been sent to the Nigeria Immigration Service for his release to enable him participate in the celebration.

“We will take care of your air ticket and logistics. We are proud of you,” the lawmaker added.

The honour for Immigration Officer Ugochukwu Orji goes beyond just his community. The Alumni Association of Holy Family Secondary School, Osusu, where Orji studied, also praised him for his integrity and courageous stand.

In a joint statement by the Alumni President, Agbara Reginald, and Secretary, Isaac Chidiebere, the school community expressed pride in the values displayed by Orji, describing his actions as a reflection of the moral foundation built during his time at the institution.
