Single Mother Accuses Ex-Husband of Child Neglect

A Nigerian woman, Blessing Paulinus, has gone public with emotional claims that her ex-husband has not supported their two daughters for almost 11 years since their separation.

In a heartfelt Facebook post, she shared her struggles as a single mother and called out her former partner for completely abandoning his responsibilities as a father.

Blessing stated that since their marriage ended, she has taken full responsibility for raising their children without any form of financial or emotional support from her ex-husband. She explained that all parenting duties — from paying school fees and medical bills to providing food, clothes, and personal care items — have been handled solely by her.

According to her, the most painful part is that her ex-husband allegedly made a vow to make life hard for her and her family after their breakup.

“It’s been almost 11 years of doing every single thing alone,” she wrote. “That includes school, medical, feeding, clothes, every single bill… alone. And you think I’ll go through all of that and share the glory with someone who hasn’t even sent one naira?”

Blessing said she made efforts to co-parent with him for the first three years after the marriage broke down, but he refused to participate. She added that even when she pleaded with him, he allegedly remained cold-hearted, telling her she would beg before he’d offer any help.

She recalled that he turned his back on their children when the oldest was just five years old. That child is now 15, and Blessing claims he has never looked back or contributed anything since then.

“Someone I literally begged and cajoled to co-parent for 3 years since the marriage didn’t work, but he refused? You expect me to waste my energy on such a person instead of working on myself to stay alive?” she said in the post.

“You think these men don’t know what they’re doing? After all this, you expect me to let my children bear his name? I must be mad. I’ve already gotten new birth certificates and changed their state of origin. I’ve done it all alone, and I’m proud of it.”

Blessing also addressed those who criticize her for being a “bitter single mom,” saying she has fully accepted that label if it means standing up for her children and refusing to honor a father who abandoned them.

“Yes, I’m a bitter single mom, and I wear that tag with my full chest. Deal with it,” she declared.
