“Don’t Play the Fool Again” – Bishop David Oyedepo Warns Church Members Ahead of 2027 Elections

As the 2027 general elections draw closer, renowned Nigerian clergyman, Bishop David Oyedepo has sent a clear message to members of his church, urging them to make wise and informed choices at the polls.

Speaking during a recent service at the Living Faith Church, also known as Winners Chapel, the respected preacher called on his congregation to approach the coming elections with discernment and a strong sense of responsibility.

He warned against repeating past mistakes and emphasized the consequences of voting without thinking deeply about the future of the country.

“The money they gave you in the last election, I’m sure it’s still there,” Bishop Oyedepo said sarcastically, referring to those who sold their votes during the previous polls.

“I don’t think any member of this church will play the fool this time,” he added.

The bishop went on to criticize the current state of governance, especially the failure to uphold Nigeria’s Federal Character Principle, which promotes fair representation across different regions and groups.

He expressed concern over the growing trend of religious and ethnic favoritism in politics, saying:

“Today you have Muslim-Muslim ticket being promoted, tomorrow Fulani-Fulani, next tomorrow governors hand over to their brothers. Why? Because federal character has been destroyed.”

Many Nigerians took to social media to agree with Bishop Oyedepo’s remarks, reflecting on the hardships faced by citizens since the last elections.

A user, @churchill_777, wrote:

“After insulting Peter Obi and ‘teaching him a lesson,’ look at what we’re going through now — people selling their cars, struggling with rent, drinking herbs because they can’t afford medicine, and walking long distances because of high transport costs. The price of food and even basic items is unbearable. Tribalism got us here, and no one is spared.”

Another commenter, @_bigkhalif, shared his frustration:

“I remember how some Yoruba people attacked me for speaking out against their ‘brother’ becoming president. Now look at Lagos — the number of beggars on the streets is more than in the North. Tribalism has destroyed us.”
