Federal Government Begins Evacuation of Nigerians from Israel and Iran as War Escalates

The Nigerian government has announced urgent plans to evacuate its citizens stranded in Israel and Iran following the ongoing conflict between the two countries.

In a statement released late Tuesday, Kimiebi Ebienfa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirmed that Nigeria’s embassies in Tel Aviv and Tehran are actively working to ensure the safe return of Nigerians affected by the crisis.

“Following the escalation of the crisis between the State of Israel and the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Federal Government is finalising arrangements for the emergency evacuation of stranded Nigerians in both countries,” the statement read.

The ministry also urged all Nigerian nationals in Israel and Iran to stay alert and follow security guidelines. 

They are advised to immediately contact the nearest Nigerian embassy or mission for registration and further instructions on the evacuation process.

The government appreciated the efforts of Nigerian diplomats on the ground, praising their commitment to supporting Nigerians during these difficult times.

The Federal Government further stated that it is working closely with international partners and local authorities to ensure the evacuation is carried out quickly and safely.

“The Ministry commends the efforts put in place by our Missions in Tel Aviv, Israel, and Tehran, Iran for their dedication and commitment to reaching out to the Nigerian community in these difficult times,” the statement added.

“We want to assure Nigerians that the government remains committed to the safety and welfare of all its citizens, both at home and abroad.”

As the violence intensifies, the Nigerian government has once again called for an immediate end to the fighting. It urged all parties to choose peaceful dialogue over war, respect international laws, and protect innocent civilians caught in the crossfire.

“Nigeria stands firm in its support for peaceful conflict resolution and remains committed to regional and global peace and stability,” the Ministry emphasized.

Further updates about the evacuation process will be shared through official channels in the coming days.

This evacuation plan comes just days after Israel launched a major airstrike targeting over 100 key locations in Iran, including military bases and nuclear sites. 

The attack reportedly led to the deaths of several high-ranking Iranian military leaders, including General Mohammad Bagheri and IRGC commander Hossein Salami.

In response, Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, declared the airstrikes a “declaration of war” and promised harsh retaliation. Iran’s military has warned that their response would be powerful and without limits.

With rising fears of a full-scale war in the region, many countries, including Nigeria, are acting fast to protect their citizens and calling for calm. The international community continues to push for restraint to prevent further violence and instability in the Middle East.
