Israel-Iran Conflict Escalates After Alleged Ceasefire Breach by Iran

Tensions in the Israel-Iran conflict rose sharply on Tuesday after Israel’s Defence Minister, Israel Katz, claimed that Iran violated a U.S.-brokered ceasefire by launching missiles into Israel. In response, Katz said he ordered Israeli forces to launch strikes on Tehran.

According to Katz, the missile attack came just hours after U.S. President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire between the two countries. 

“Because of Iran’s clear violation of the ceasefire declared by President Trump, I have instructed the Israeli military to continue strong operations against Iranian targets in Tehran,” Katz said in an official statement.

However, Iran denied firing any missiles. Iranian military officials told the media that they had not launched any attack towards Israel in recent hours and were respecting the terms of the ceasefire.

The country’s Foreign Ministry also confirmed that Iran had not taken any action that would break the agreement.

The ceasefire, which President Trump announced through a post on his social media platform Truth Social, was meant to end almost two weeks of fighting.

The hostilities began on June 13, when Israel carried out a surprise strike on Iranian nuclear and missile sites.

After the ceasefire was declared, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel had achieved its main goal: reducing Iran’s nuclear capabilities. “We appreciate the support of President Trump and the United States in defending our country and helping to remove the Iranian nuclear threat,” Netanyahu said.

But Iran told a different story. The country’s top security body, the Supreme National Security Council, claimed it was actually Iran’s military strength that forced Israel to agree to a ceasefire.

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi, had earlier said that Iran would stop retaliating if Israel halted its attacks by 4:00 a.m. local time.

Now, with both sides accusing each other of breaking the truce, the situation is once again unstable. The fresh military actions and opposing claims are raising fears that the ceasefire may not hold.
