M.I Abaga Regrets Supporting APC, Admits Party Failed to Deliver

Nigerian rap legend M.I Abaga has admitted he regrets supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the 2015 general elections.

Speaking on a recent episode of the Menism podcast, the award-winning rapper shared that he initially backed the APC because he believed the former ruling party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), was corrupt and needed to be replaced.

“Yes, I supported APC because at that time, I felt that the PDP government was very corrupt. I was one of those who raised their voice to say, ‘Let us stand and bring in democracy,’” M.I said during the interview.

However, years down the line, the rapper now says the APC has fallen short of the promises that made him support the party in the first place.

M.I Abaga regrets supporting APC, saying the party no longer represents the dreams or expectations he had back in 2015.

“As a human being, no matter how much you try to be right, you will be wrong sometimes. APC unfortunately isn’t the APC of my dreams,” he added.

M.I also spoke about the criticism he received after tweeting about the killings in Benue State. Some Nigerians responded by reminding him of his past political support.

“I tweeted about the thing that happened in Benue and a lot of people were saying, ‘But M.I, you supported the APC,’” he shared.

The rapper didn’t hide his disappointment and admitted that in hindsight, his support for the party was a mistake. According to him, the APC today doesn’t reflect the ideals he once believed in.

Despite the criticism, M.I says he has learned from the experience and is now focused on more meaningful ways to contribute to Nigeria’s future. He’s turning to music, advocacy, and youth empowerment as tools to drive change.

He stressed the importance of using his influence to inspire young Nigerians, promote good leadership, and push for accountability from those in power.

“Now, my focus is on building the nation, empowering young people, and using my voice to do good,” the rapper said.
